Skin Care Study: All About Aqua

Welcome to our Skin Care Study Series

Hi, I'm CeCe Olisa, founder and CEO of Cocoa by CeCe. Cocoa by CeCe is a body positive body care company. In this series, I will walk you through the pure ingredients that I hand-pick for my skin care recipes. Today we're talking about "Aqua".

Let's begin!

Cocoa by CeCe, Aqua

What is "Aqua" in Skincare?

Aqua is an universal solvent in cosmetics and can be combined with thick ingredients like oils and butters to form lotions and creams. In skin care, aqua dissolves thicker ingredients and facilitates the making of lighter products that spread evenly and can be rinsed off with water.

Why not just call it Water?

Right now Cocoa by CeCe is only available in the United States, but I have dreams of growing into an international beauty brand so I figured I would align with the INCI International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients packaging standards based on the future I see for the company.

The ingredient labels for all cosmetics/skincare/haircare are required by law to list all of the ingredients in the formula using their INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) names.

The INCI name for "water" is "aqua".

What are the benefits of "Aqua" in skincare?

Water helps your skin absorb and maintain both moisture and the other skin-boosting ingredients within formulas.

What is the first ingredient in Cocoa by CeCe "Doll Butter"?

You can find aqua, water (aka H20) right in the very first spot of the doll butter ingredient list, meaning it’s the biggest thing out of all the stuff that doll butter is made of.
